Choirs

One of the most exciting sections of WCAF is the choirs. It is fantastic to see and hear people of all ages, abilities and experience singing all different styles of music in choirs of all sizes.

This year we have exciting new opportunities, including the 'Come and Sing' day with John Rutter on Saturday 15th March and competitive and non-competitive performance opportunities taking place across Saturday 8th and Saturday 15th March.

Entries made by 1st December 2024 are FREE OF CHARGE for all choirs for the first time this year.

We are also offering workshops for school choirs for the first time.

Within the vocal syllabus you will find details of the  competitive and non-competitive sections for choirs. Choir sections are split by age. This year there are more age groups than ever before and classes for both large and small choirs. Open classes are open to anyone, of any age.

If we receive enough entries, we will split the classes by the size of the group and style of music and for school choirs, we may split the age groups further.

Singers may also wish to enter some of the other vocal sections, including solo, duet and unaccompanied sections.

The above link to the syllabus is only for the vocal sections. Entries MUST be made online via Play&Perform.

There are several special classes that string players may also wish to enter:

  • More advanced performers may wish to enter the William Lewis Recital class. Entrants to this class should prepare a 15-minute recital of 2 or more contrasting pieces.

  • The Marian Baker memorial class is another recital class for which a minimum standard of Grade 6 on two contrasting pieces is required.

  • The Sproule class is for performers up to the age of 15. Competitors must perform a poem or an acted scene AND a song or a piece of music on any instrument.
